How it's built

Four layers,
no shortcuts.

1

The roll

Soft, fresh, sturdy enough to hold everything we throw at it — and no more.

2

The dog

Cooked to order on the flat top. The snap isn't negotiable.

3

The sauce

Made by us, in small batches. Charcoal aioli, salsa verde, sweet-and-sour — none of it comes out of a catering tin.

4

The pile on top

Pickles, crackling, herbs, nori. The bit that makes people stop and ask what it is.

Our story

One cart.
No fixed address.

Stray Dogs started with a simple grudge: the humble hot dog gets treated like an afterthought. So we built a cart, learned to make everything ourselves, and started turning up wherever the good markets are.

Everything is cooked in front of you, on a flat top, under a yellow marquee you can spot from the car park. Some weekends that's Coburg. Some weekends it's Docklands. Some nights it's the back bar of a pub in North Melbourne at half past nine.

If you've queued in the rain for one — thank you. That's the reason the specials keep getting stranger.
